I’ve had the pleasure of a sneak peak inside the International Convention Centre (ICC) Sydney, opening in December, and I have to tell you its Grand Ballroom is a game changer for gala awards producers.
The ballroom is located in the five-storey high, glass-encased main building which forms part of the 200,000 sqm centre – that’s bigger than three city blocks!
What makes the ballroom so impressive is not just its size (seating up to 2,000 pax banquet-style) but two other factors that really made me smile:
1. Light-coloured walls that make the space feel airy, and are great for showcasing coloured lights and large projections.
2. An amazing ceiling made from thousands of mirror-finished “wings” that look spectacular. The whole nine-metre-high ceiling becomes a tapestry of colours when lights are shone onto it.
The result is a BIG venue (the biggest ballroom in Australia) that will not cost the earth for event producers looking to make their dollar go further.
As I said, it’s a game changer!
